Behind the true meaning of community, volunteering is a cornerstone of building compassionate and strong communities. It serves as a powerful force for positive change, contributing to the well-being of both individuals and society at large.

Volunteering with the One Life Project gives individuals the opportunity to actively engage with the causes they are passionate about, whether it's supporting youth through mental health education and advocacy, advocating for human rights and social justice, researching suicide prevention information, or working behind the scenes. Beyond the tangible impact on the communities we serve, volunteering with us offers volunteers a unique opportunity for personal growth and development. It fosters a sense of purpose, belonging, and interconnectedness, enhancing mental and emotional well-being. By dedicating their time and skills, volunteers become agents of change, embodying the values of empathy and solidarity. Moreover, volunteering with the One Life Project is a great way to meet new people and make friends, travel to new places when we are hosting events, and be part of a loving and inclusive community. Our volunteers and employees are like family, we work together to make a difference.

The One Life Project is home to over 3,500 volunteers across two dozen states throughout the United States. Over 95% of our staff is volunteer and these volunteers work in various departments doing various tasks. No matter what your interests are, we have a spot for you here with us!

Your worth is not determined by the opinions of others. True self-esteem comes from recognizing your unique strengths, embracing your imperfections, and valuing the journey of becoming the best version of yourself.

The Volunteer Application Process

Our application process for new volunteer is very quick and simple. Our volunteer application process is designed to be inclusive, streamlined, and easy. Prospective volunteers typically begin by visiting our website (where you are right now) and filling out the volunteer application, which you can find here. The application form, accessible online or in person if needed, gathers basic information about the volunteer's skills, interests, and what they are looking for in a volunteer role. We don't require a resume but we have the option to upload one to better understand your background and experience. Once the application is submitted, a member of our human resources department will review the application and reach out to you to schedule a quick phone call. This call lasts only around 5-10 minutes and is used for us to get to know you, explain some of the roles we offer, and discuss details on the role you applied for. Concluding this call, the manager will forward your application to the correct department and that director will reach out through email to welcome you, give you necessary information, and set you up for success. Depending on the nature of the volunteer role, there might be additional training or background checks to ensure a safe and secure environment for both volunteers and those they serve. This is typically only required for high level management roles. Our application process ensures that volunteers are well-informed, aligned with the organization's mission, and equipped to contribute meaningfully to our initiatives. Ultimately, the goal is to create a positive and engaging experience that fosters a sense of purpose and community for volunteers dedicated to making a difference.

Volunteering Trip

Currently, the One Life Project has numerous volunteer management, team member, and supervisory positions open. The One Life Project is formed by two divisions and two executive offices. Learn more about our organizational structure below:

Division of Education and Advocacy

This division oversees all education, awareness, activism, and advocacy work, projects, and planning. It also holds our human rights team and our education and research department. Their goal is to spread our mission into multiple communities.

Division of Development and Philanthropy

This division oversees development, finance, donations coordination, operations, and business. They also oversee all social media and website development.

Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors serve at our monthly board meetings and work to ensure the organization is moving forward smoothly. They also approve requests, work on planning, and finalize organizational structure.

Executive Management Office

This office includes all managers, directors, and executive team members, both at the national and regional levels.

Executive President's Office

This office is the highest level of management in the organization and includes our President, Executive Assistant President, and Divisional Executive Leaders.

At the One Life Project, the vast majority of our volunteers are not required to put in a certain amount of time in volunteering. A lot of work is done virtually and online, so most volunteers can complete work on their own time schedule. A lot of our team members work together in groups to complete tasks and projects, so our volunteers are able to pick and choose which projects and tasks they'd like to be a part of.

We have managers and directors who only put in 5 hours a month and team members who put in 40 hours a week. We are very grateful for all of our volunteers, regardless of how many hours you're able to contribute. We also have short term and one day volunteer roles such as with community relations and event coordination.
